How It Works

Profit/Loss is calculated based on the price difference between entry and exit. For long positions: profit = (exit - entry) × pip value. For short positions: profit = (entry - exit) × pip value.

Pips measure the price movement. For EUR/USD: 1.0850 → 1.0900 = 50 pips. For USD/JPY: 150.00 → 150.50 = 50 pips (JPY pairs use 0.01 pip size).

Example: Long EUR/USD at 1.0850, exit at 1.0900, 1 lot. Price moved 50 pips. Pip value = $10 per lot. Profit = 50 × $10 = $500.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between long and short positions?

A long position (buy) profits when price rises. You buy at entry and sell at exit. Profit = (exit - entry) × pip value. A short position (sell) profits when price falls. You sell at entry and buy back at exit. Profit = (entry - exit) × pip value.

How are pips calculated for profit/loss?

Pips = (Exit - Entry) / Pip Size for long positions, or (Entry - Exit) / Pip Size for short positions. Most pairs use 0.0001 pip size (e.g. EUR/USD 1.0850 → 1.0851 = 1 pip). JPY pairs use 0.01 (e.g. USD/JPY 150.00 → 150.01 = 1 pip).

What is percentage return?

Percentage return = (Profit/Loss / Account Balance) × 100. This shows your return relative to your account size. For example, $500 profit on a $10,000 account = 5% return. Enter your account balance to see this calculation.

Are swap costs included?

No, swap costs (overnight interest) are not included in this calculation. The calculator shows profit/loss based on price movement only. Swap costs depend on your broker's rates and how long you hold the position overnight.
